Construction lifts are frequently used for making high positions of a building easily accessible for workers. Lifts also serve the purpose of elevated structure maintenance and also find their use in factory or warehouse environment.
There are mainly 2 types of designs for aerial lifts and selecting the type of lift mostly depends on the requirements you have. The different types of aerial lifts are:
- Boom Lifts
- Scissor Lifts
Boom Lifts: There are 2 variations of boom lifts; one is the telescopic or straight boom which has long arms reaching up to 120o. They find their primary use in construction sites where workers are able to easily access the higher floors of a building with ease.
The other one is called articulating or knuckle boom and are able to move around various obstacles to reach the destined location and place the bucket. Their use is common in places where trees or power lines make it difficult to position equipment properly.
A boom lift can have platform height ranging between 20’ and 110’ & lifting capacity of around 500 lbs. There is also scope to add a jib that gives it additional 6’ in height and permits up & down movement of bucket without the need to move main boom.
Scissor Lifts: The difference between boom lifts and scissor lifts is that these have greater lifting capacities and bigger platforms but can only move vertically.
Some also have platform extension which helps to extend reach to about 6’ from lifts top part. Most commonly the platform height for scissor lifts is in the 19’ – 50’ range and capacity to lift varying from 500 – 2500 lbs.
There are 2 kinds of scissor lifts; one is the gas powered lift and the other is the electric powered. Electric ones are basically used for indoor purposes due to the small size they have and their tires which are non marking type. They have platforms of up to 40 feet. The gas powered ones can have extensions close to 50 feet and are mostly used at construction sites.
For purchasing any of the used lifts what you will have to do is closely look into their features and check with different providers such as Terex, Mitsubishi, etc. for availability of used lifts for sale.
