Structure of an excavator

The equipment primarily consists of bucket, boom & cab on rotating platform which is called the house. The operations are performed by using hydraulic fluid.

The engine in an excavator mainly drive the hydraulic pumps and there are normally 3 pumps; two of them supply oil to the rams, track motors & accessories at high pressure and the third pump is used in pilot control and is of low pressure.

There are 2 main sections in an excavator, one is the house and the other is called the undercarriage. Undercarriage consists of tracks, blade, final drives and track frame. The house contains the counterweight, operator cab, hydraulic oil tanks and engine. It is attached to undercarriage through center pin that let the machine slew 360⁰ without any problem.
