Chain Trenchers
The specialty of chain trenchers is that they cut using digging chain which gets driven around the boom. Advantage of using this type of trencher is that you can easily cut hard ground. These are ideal for use in large areas and have provision to use conveyor belt to remove excavated material.
Portable Trenchers
Portable trenchers are used for landscape edging as well as for installation of irrigation lines. These are favorites with most lawn curers and landscapers. The cutting mechanism used in these portable trenchers could be anything ranging from chain to blade which are alike blades for lawn mowers.
Wheel Trenchers
These are designed so as to cut ground which is difficult for chain trenchers. The trencher has cutting wheel which helps it to function in soft as well as hard soil. Wheel trenchers have such design that the cutting depth can be maintained and have wheel diameter which is quite small. Cutting width can also be adjusted using the tools present around trencher’s wheel. There is also provision for ejectors which assist in pushing excavated soil or other material out of the trench.
Micro Trenchers
Micro trenchers find there use in all urban areas. It has cutting wheel which can be used to make a trench much smaller in dimension compared to other trenching equipments. These micro trenchers can cut with widths in the 35mm – 135mm range and up to 550mm maximum depth. Many of these trenchers can also be controlled using radio signals making them easier to control. The advantage of using these trenchers is that there is minimal excavated material and much less damage to the road. It is quite a useful machine that can cut solid stone and is capable of cutting harder grounds than what a chain trencher can. They find their use in road maintenance work as well as to work on under road utilities.
